Torrington

Torrington has always been the name of the railway station that served Great Torrington (which is sometimes also referred to as just Torrington). Obviously, the railway line is long gone, and the Tarka Trail follows the course that once saw steam trains hauling both freight and passengers.

The old Torrington railway station is now the Puffing Billy, a thriving restaurant, popular with Tarka Trail users and road users alike - the A386 crosses the Tarka Trail almost right next to the Puffing Billy.

Directly behind the Puffing Billy you will find Torrington Cycle Hire, who are firendly and willing to assist cyclists with all manner of mechanical trouble. Obviously, they also do cycle hire.
