What do you want?

Think  carefully  about  what  you  really  want

I get it – you’re busy. You go to work, perhaps have family commitments and more. There’s always something demanding your time and attention, right? I do have some questions for you though, beginning with just this: what exactly is it that you want from life? Do you want a flashy car and a big house? Perhapst designer clothes and lots of exotic holidays? What about want promotion, more responsibility and an even bigger pay cheque? Seriously, what do you want? Have you ever sat down and thought about it?

Why?

I have more questions for you – why do you feel you need a flashy car? Why do you need a big house? What hole in your life are you trying to fill with yet more things? How many bedrooms can you sleep in, at any given point in time? And you do realise that no matter how fast and expensive your car, it will get bogged down in congestion just as much as a little dinged-up £500 run-around would, right?

None of us know how long we will live. A very good friend of mine, Bordor, went from feeling ill enough to see a doctor to being dead in under three months, after being diagnosed with leukaemia. He was just 32. I’ve no idea how old you are, but I can tell you that “just waiting to get to that point in life” is a steaming pile of bovine excrement. You might believe the lies you tell yourself, but please don’t expect me to? Live! Live now! You have no idea what tomorrow holds.

Love

Tell those you care about that you love them. Go do the crazy things. In ancient times, people were buried with grave goods, but I sincerely hope by now you’ve learned that whatever things you’ve collected throughout your life, you can’t take it with you. Stop spending money on things and spend your time, effort and money on experiences instead.
Go climb a mountain. Yes, Ben Nevis is certainly a big enough mountain, but i doesn’t have to be as big (or small) as that. Go learn a new language, or learn to play a musical instrument. It doesn’t matter how well you play – all that matters is how much you enjoy it. That’s also true for singing, and dancing, and a great many other things.

Live

Change your style of dress, to better reflect who you really are. Change your hair colour and/or style, if you want to. Be who you truly are, and stop trying to be the person that you feel others expect you to be. Love, with all of your heart, even if that risks a broken heart. Especially if that risks a broken heart. Besides, all the best hearts are held together with superglue and duct tape. Step out of your comfort zone!

Make  better  choices

Sit down, take some time out, and figure out what you really want from life, from your life, then see if your current lifestyle choices will lead you towards, or away from that. If away from what you want, start making different choices. You cannot change your entire life all at once, but you can start make a change to head towards what you actually want. Here’s the thing – if you dig deep enough, I suspect you’ll find that a flashy car and big house don’t matter half as much to you as you always thought it did.
