The Spirit Of Adventure
What a glorious summer we're having so far! I really hope that, unlike me, you're able to get out on your bike and enjoy it. After all, summer is adventure time, so go have some bloody great adventures.
|
My collarbone seems to be healing as well as could be expected, but it'd be four to five weeks before it's anywhere near to full strength. The downside of that is that my fitness will be fading, as that's a long time to spend off the bike. I'll see if I can get some rides in on the turbo, to counter that.
|
Poor fitness and questions about the strength of my collarbone means I had to cancel my C2C and Hadrian's Cycleway loop. However, it's not all bad news: I'm planning on testing out my new Brighton Bimble route, over three mellow days.
|
As is my preferred method, it's a circular route, ending back where you started from. I'm actually extending it a bit, because I simply have to go and visit the Sovereign Light Café, Bexhill. Ever since I first heard the song of the same name, I swore I'd go visit it. After all, can you think of a better excuse for a bike ride?

As ever, this will be a Travelling Ouballies ride - yes, click the link to see what that's about, and how to pronounce it. That means the ride will be open invite, though I'll limit the numbers to around four or five people max.

I'm also working on a list of cycle touring friendly campsites (your help with it would be hugely appreciated!)

And finally, I started selling some rather funky cycling caps. It's an experiment, at this stage, and I may, or may not continue doing so. Time will tell.

The Good News

Canada has just announced a ban on single use plastics. This is an enormously big step forward in a world drowning in plastic, though sadly the detail isn't quite as excellent as the headline suggests. For starters, it's being phased in, with a full ban only becoming effective in December 2023.

Will's Unexpected Bike Hack
Summer's here, so you're probably lathering on sunscreen on rides in gloriously hot and sunny weather. Just ensure you don't apply sunscreen on your forehead, or any area above your eyes. If you did, you'd soon enough find a stinging mix of sweat and sunscreen running into your eyes, and that won't be fun.
