The Spirit Of Adventure
Can you believe this is already the 21st edition of the Spirit Of Adventure? Where's the time gone! The very first edition was on Friday, 25th of February 2022, but was called Ramblings From The Road back then.
Thanks to each one of you, here we are, 42 weeks later, with the end of 2022 in sight. A double thanks goes to every one of you who sent me Bike Hacks, participated in competitions I ran, or simply let me know what you were up to.
I would really like for The Spirit Of Adventure to not be a one-way street, so every time I hear back from any one of you, I'm glad.
And speaking of competitions, I ran a competition in the previous edition of the newsletter. Up for grabs was a blue, short-sleeved WillCycle "Life Behind Bars" cycling jersey, and I'm happy to announce that the lucky winner is... (insert dramatic drum roll here) Dan!
Dan, I emailed you separately, and will get the jersey in the mail to you as soon as I have your details.
May all the trains you want to travel on always have a free bike space!
The Blast From The Past button is quite straightforward: with every edition, I link a random old WillCycle post to it. If you click it, you will see what old WillCycle post it takes you to.
The button will only ever point at WillCycle.

Did You Know...?
Armadillo shells are bullet-proof (to most hand guns, anyway). A man in Texas was hospitalised after shooting at an armadillo. The bullet ricocheted and hit the man in the jaw, while the armadillo was unharmed!

Formartine and Buchan Way
The Formartine and Buchan Way follows a disused railway from Dyce (near Aberdeen) to Maud. At Maud, it branches, and you can opt to ride east to Peterhead, or continue north to Fraserburgh. As you'd expect from a former railway, the route is relatively flat. As the digital maps only allow continuous routes, this route guide is unusual in that …

A small adventure is still an adventure We live in a hyper-competitive world, where (almost) everyone is constantly trying to outdo the next person. UK politicians are forever bleating about "world-beating" this and "world-beating" that. But you know what? It doesn't have to be this way. Bigger isn't always better, and even when it is, it really doesn't matter. Your …

Go on, admit it: you've always wanted to go explore the pyramids of Giza, right? Well, I have some great news for you: you can go explore them - yes, even the underground passages - all without leaving your chair, courtesy of Harvard University.

Will's Unexpected Bike Hack
When camping in the cold, try to take a water bottle that can handle hot water. If it's a metal bottle, fill it hot water, and pop it inside a sock, then use it as a hot-water bottle inside your sleeping bag. As a bonus, if it's bitterly cold, you won't have to melt ice first before brewing that all-important cup of coffee!

Do you have any hacks to share? Well then, don't be shy! Simply reply to this email. I'm fast running out of useful hacks to share so I can really do with suggestions.
