The Spirit Of Adventure

Feeling Cristmassy yet?

With the festival season upon us it's time to hunker down, hide from the cold, and spend time with loved ones. Having said that, I'm planning a camping session on Dartmoor, probably between Christmas and New Year.
After all, if you limit your adventure season to just summer, you'll miss out on so many adventures!

In other news, I moved WillCycle.com to a new web host, as I had many problems with the previous one. The new host is faster, but also costs me more. As you'll have noticed, I'm now running ads on the site.

WillCycle is a teeny-tiny micro-business, but one that I need to keep on subsidising from my day-job to keep going, hence the ads. If ads can at least cover my web hosting, I'll be happy. And talking about ads, don't simply blindly click on any ad, but when you do see an ad that takes your interest, please do click it? That raises my ad income.

I don't know how many of you actually look at the added web links I include in The Spirit Of Adventure, but I suspect you will really benefit from the Random Internet Link!

And finally, what are your cycling and/or adventure plans over the Christmas period? Simply reply to this email and do let me know?

May you get all your Christmas shopping done in good time, and well under budget!
Will

The Blast From The Past button is quite straightforward: with every edition, I link a random old WillCycle post to it. If you click it, you will see what old WillCycle post it takes you to.
The button will only ever point at WillCycle.

The Good News

In Japan, they're taking more action against climate change, and a switch to renewables.
From 2025, new homes in Tokyo must be fitted with solar panels.
Makes you wonder why that's not set to start in 2023 though, doesn't it?

Did You Know...?

In 1954, Eileen Sheridan set the women's record for the fastest time cycling from London to Edinburgh - she completed the distance in 20 hours, 11 minutes and 35 seconds.
That record remains unbeaten, nearly 70 years later.
Eileen very recently celebrated her 99th birthday!

Dirty diesel versus clean cargo bikes

Inner-city cargo bikes are the future London has an Ultra-Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ for short) in an attempt to address the extreme levels of traffic pollution. Last Wednesday, the Economy Committee met to discuss the business case for shifting away from diesel vans, towards e-assisted cargo bikes. And that business case is overwhelming! After all, a new report published by …

The Wirral Way

The Wirral Way
The Wirral Way forms part of the longer Wirral Circular Trail but this is by far the most popular section, being almost completely traffic free. It follows the route of a disused railway, from West Kirby to Hooton, and offers great views across the Dee Estuary to Wales, over a distance of 12.3 miles. This route can also join up …

Will's Unexpected Bike Hack

Disk brakes are great, but you need to ensure you don't get chain lube on them. If spraying chain lube, use a pizza-box lid as a shield. Simply cut a hole in the centre, big enough to comfortably fit around the anchor points of the rear rotor, but small enough to still shield the rotor.
Next, cut through the cardboard, from the centre to the edge and slide it on, so it sits between the rotor and the spokes. No chain lube overspray on the rotor!

Do you have any hacks to share? Well then, don't be shy! Simply reply to this email. I'm fast running out of useful hacks to share so I can really do with suggestions.
