The Spirit Of Adventure

Hello again!

International Women's Day is here, and this edition is dedicated to all the women out there. You are all, without exception, absolutely awesome.
Especially if you're a man, I would really like you to read this post. It's important, if we want a fairer, more equal world (and who wouldn't?)

Next, I want to tell you about SheCycles. I started SheCycles as simply a tiny way to boost some women who cycle. It's not about me, but about the women who kindly and generously agreed to do a SheCycles post. They're all very different, and all completely amazing.
As they've gone though the effort of writing a SheCycles post, don't you think the very least you can do is read what they wrote?

I don't ever pester anyone to do a SheCycles post, but if you're a woman who cycles, and would like to have your own SheCycles post, please just reply to this newsletter and let me know? I would love to publish more SheCycles posts!

May all your rides only ever have a strong tailwind!
Will

The Blast From The Past button is quite straightforward: with every edition, I link a random old WillCycle post to it. If you click it, you will see what old WillCycle post it takes you to.
The button will only ever point at WillCycle.

The Good News

After may years of waffle and hot air, we finally have a new treaty protecting international waters. The High Seas Treaty was signed at the UN, and offers a new legal framework for protecting much of the sea.

Did You Know...?

There's a lot to be said for the benefits of socialising with other people, but did you know monotony, and lack of socialising can severely impact on your brain?
Research done on the brains of polar explorers, before and after a year or more of isolation, proved their brains shrank.

What Did You Miss On WillCycle?

Wild Atlantic Way series - Sustainable cycle touring

This posts focuses on trying to find the most sustainable, least harmful way of getting to the start of my Wild Atlantic Way cycling adventure. Man-made climate change is real and undeniable. Only cranks and shills disagree with the astounding amount of verifiable scientific evidence. I'm very aware of my personal CO2 footprint, and am working to reduce it further. …

What they don't tell you about cycle touring

cycle touring
Cycle touring is growing in popularity, and for good reason. After all, it remains the very best way to explore a landscape. In fact, Ernest Hemmingway put it best, when he said: "It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them." However, …

Will's Unexpected Bike Hack

When oiling your chain, do yourself a favour and wipe the chain down afterwards. Simply hold an old rag loosely over the chain and spin the cranks a few times. The idea of oiling your chain is not to get oil all over, but rather to get oil inside the chain links. Of course a minimal layer of oil over the chain helps, but too much oil will cause gunk to start sticking to it, and clogging up the drivetrain.

Do you have any hacks to share? Well then, don't be shy! Simply reply to this email. I'm fast running out of useful hacks to share so I can really do with suggestions.
