The Spirit Of Adventure

Hi there!

This newsletter was pre-written, well before I set off for Ireland. By the time you read this, I should be almost halfway on my Wild Atlantic Adventure, and I hope you've been following my progress on the Where's Will Now page.

Writing this newsletter is a tad tricky: I can't offer any insights into Ireland yet, as (at the time of writing) I haven't even left for Ireland yet. However, when cycle touring, I prefer to wild camp. That means being off-grid, and being self-reliant on charging my gadgets up. It also means trying to reduce power usage while on the road, precisely because I'm reliant on the power I can harvest from my bike's dynamo, and what I can harvest with my portable solar panel.

That's led me to decide to pre-write this (and the next) newsletter. For more current updates from the ride, simply read my daily posts on WillCycle.com. Besides, to enter the competition to win a signed copy of John Devoy's excellent book, Quondam, you'll need to read the questions in each daily update!

May all all your rides be in warm and sunny weather!
Will

The Blast From The Past button is quite straightforward: with every edition, I link a random old WillCycle post to it. If you click it, you will see what old WillCycle post it takes you to.
The button will only ever point at WillCycle.

The Good News

This is a heart-warming story of a homeless man in the USA who found a cheque for $10 000. His first instinct was to return it to the person who lost it. His honesty and kindness didn't go unrewarded!

Did You Know...?

Scientists found that the smell of chocolate inside a book shop makes people want to buy more books, with especially romance novels being popular.

Wild Atlantic Way - Day 7

I make a conscious effort to try and avoid being negative, but the town of Bantry doesn't rate well at all in my opinion. Bantry - best avoided When I arrived in the town, I saw a pizza place and decided to order food from there. It was well before 5pm, but I was bluntly told they'd close at 5pm, …

Today's update also carries more news from yesterday. After waking, and packing up, I took up the offer of coffee made by the two YouTubing couples. Video killed the radio star Now I've always known that obviously there needs to be direction of some sort when making a video, but I gained some first-hand insights into the process as they …

Brought to you by the Library of Scotland, this site is an amazing tool! It allows you to view side-by-side maps, with one of the maps being older Ordnance Survey maps, some dating back to the 1870s. This allows you to see how roads, and even trainlines, plus the rest of the landscape changed over time.

And Finally...

I spend considerable amounts of time producing The Spirit Of Adventure, and you receive it for free. Please do me a favour and forward it to someone else who you think will appreciate it?
