The Spirit Of Adventure

Hi there!

Yes, a name-change! Why? Because I felt Spirit Of Adventure better sums up what this newsletter is meant to be about.

With the last email newsletter, I messed up! See, there's this technology to combat spam email, called SPF (Sender Policy Framework). SPF works like this: when I send an email to you (and a newsletter is done by email) your mail server will receive it, then do an SPF lookup against WillCycle.com. It will compare the results of that with the details of the sending server. If those match, the mail server will deliver the message to you, but if they don't match, it will simply destroy the message, believing it to be fake.
When I changed newsletter service provider (I'm now with MailPoet) it meant MailPoet's mail servers were sending out the emails. Only, I completely failed to update my SPF records, meaning most of you never received it directly.

Sorry about that (and the techie explanation!). I've since sorted it.

Other than that, I finally managed to catch COVID (sounds like I went looking for it, but believe me, the opposite is true!) I'm now at the tail end of it, having just come out of my (self-imposed) quarantine at the beginning of the week. Well, wasn't going to risk passing it on to others, now was I?

Oh, I have some great news, too. WillCycle has been listed by FeedSpot.com as the 16th topmost cycle touring blog. Yes, globally! I'm incredibly proud of that. You can see the full list here.
Why is that relevant to you? Well, clearly it proves you're a person with impeccable taste in cycling blogs! ;-)

Right, nuff rambling from me - over to you. How are you? What adventures are you planning? What funny, or sad stories do you have to share with us?
Simply reply to this email and tell me all.

Will

Will you be brave enough to click the Blast From The Past button, and see what old WillCycle post it takes you to?

The Good News

The latest report from the IPCC is simultaneously terrifying, and full of hope. We can still beat climate change, but we need to move fast.
A new initiative, called Beat The Street set up to gamify active travel in some parts of London, and has reported startling improvements in the uptake of active travel. There's hope for the future!

Did You Know...?

We all know bicycles are zero emissions vehicles, right? But did you know that ebike riders overall, once we factored in food production, have a lower CO2 footprint than "acoustic" cyclists?

What Did You Miss On WillCycle?

I've reduced this section to just the last 2 blog posts, to declutter the newsletter a bit

Kit Review - TyreKey

The battle of getting tight tyres onto a rim It's easy to see where the TyreKey got it's name from - it looks much like a large key. There are two versions of the TyreKey, and I was given the newer version to try, which was redesigned to cope better with fatter tyres and wider rims. The  main  attraction The …

Random Internet Link

New feature! I'll be including a Random Internet Link in each newsletter.

For obvious reasons, I won't hide where the link takes you behind a button, like I do with Blast From The Past. You know Blast From The Past is safe, as it only ever points at WillCycle.

This Random Internet Link introduces you to a whole bunch of little "friends" you probably never knew you had. From that article: "They're known as Demodex or eyelash mites, and just about every adult human alive has a population living on them."
If you're particularly squeamish, you may want to give this one a miss ;-)

Will's Unexpected Bike Hack

If you ever fumbled, with fully-gloved hands, trying to open or close zips on your rain coat, you already know how annoying that can be.
Save yourself some trouble quite easily: from your nearest Pound shop, buy a pack of elastic hair bands. Feed them through the zip-puller, then through itself. Ta da! All your zips now will have pullers that are far easier to use with, or without gloves!

Do you have any hacks to share? Well then, don't be shy! Simply reply to this email.

And Finally...
