We’re off on holiday again tomorrow, for a week! Yay!
Except it isn’t quite a luxuriant as it sounds: friends of my in-laws own a chalet at Whitsand Bay, which is practically around the corner from Plymouth, and that’s where we’re going. It is so close to home that I’m cycling there!
You may ask what the point is, and if you did you’d be missing the point. See, especially for the kids it’d be a great adventure. Late nights and barbecues on a gorgeous beach will compensate for the freezing cold water and dropping night temperatures. And we can even take our little dog with! Better yet, in case of emergency we can simply pop home to wash laundry, or pick up that essential but left-behind item.
Basically it is a very cheap little bonus holiday mainly for the kids, though I expect we’d enjoy it just as much.
To get there I’ll cycle to the Cremyll ferry and take the ferry to Mount Edgecombe, from where I’ll cycle through Kingsand & Cawsand via the South West Coast footpath. Some distance after that I’d join Military road and then it’d simply be a matter of a few ups and downs before I get there.
Given that I’m riding a road bike with road tyres, it may get interesting in places!
If you ever get the chance to cycle that route I’m sure you’d enjoy it as there are some stunning vistas along the way. As I’ve said before, I’m fortunate to live in a very beautiful part of the country.
